Why is Charanjit Channi the Favorite Choice for Chief Minister of Punjab?
On a recent Punjab Opinion Poll 2022 conducted by Zee News and DesignBoxed based on opinion of 1.2 million people, Charanjit Singh Channi of Congress outshone the rest. Charanjit Channi is energetic, rustic and spontaneous with a very drawing personality. On a survey, Charanjit Singh Channi is liked by 31% people, AAP leader Bhagwant Mann 24%, Sukhbir Badal of SAD by 21%, Amarinder Singh of Punjab Lok Congress by 7%, Navjot Singh Sidhu of Congress by 5% and Arvind Kejriwal of AAP by 11%.
Undoubtedly, he is the choice of CM post in entire Punjab due to his instant magnetic pull to the public while on road, in car, jostling amongst crowds and jumping out of vehicle to reach out to the angry crowds to pacify their fears and reassure them or stopping en route to sit in a Dhaba and sip a cup of tea, dance bhangra jubilantly with the people of Punjab without reticence and as the English would say, “he is a jolly good sport!” On the flow and on the moment, moving in momentum.
As soon as he assumed the chair of the chief minister, he set out on the fields to start working on ground. Shooting out promises to the people of Punjab did not seem hollow words because he instantly set out to ensure work would be done and vows would be sealed by definite actions.

About His Life and Career
Channi was born in the village of Makrauna Kalan, Punjab. He studied law at Panjab University and has an MBA from PTU Jalandhar. He belongs to the Dalit Sikh community. He is currently pursuing PhD from Panjab University Chandigarh in topic related to Indian National Congress with Professor Emanual Nahar as his guide.
He is married to Kamaljit Kaur who is a doctor and has two children. His elder son Navjeet Singh, who’s passed out from PEC University of Technology, is now pursuing law, like his father.
Channi is the 27th CM of Punjab who was a Minister of Technical Educational and Industrial Training in the Punjab government. He is a lawyer, management graduate, ever learning, and the hero for the Dalits. A self-made politician, the new chief minister of Punjab is a man of many parts.
Channi says he gets his love for education from his father Harsa Singh who worked in Malaysia for a while, and relocated his family from their ancestral village to Kharar to ensure good education for his children. He was inspired in his political career by his elder brother Manmohan Singh, who started as an overseer but retired as a chief engineer. Channi recounts how Manmohan was a diploma holder when he joined the government service, but did graduation, B Tech, and law while in service.
Besides politics and studies, Channi also excelled at bhangra and handball, representing PU thrice in handball.
He known to often drive his car himself, and pay the toll tax. In fact, he came to the Punjab Bhawan, riding pillion on a motorcycle driven by Sunil Jakhar, former PPCC chief.
Much before Congress legislators began to stew a revolt against Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, Channi, who hails from the Ramdasia community, had been seeking a greater representation of Dalits in the Punjab Cabinet given their high percentage in the party.
Channi was an active participant in the revolt against the chief minister that gathered pace this April after the High Court quashed investigations into a case related to sacrilege.
He was among the four ministers who went to meet Punjab in charge Harish Rawat in Dehradun. But unlike the others, he had chosen to participate in the virtual Cabinet meet a day later, and even thanked the CM for a step taken for the SC students, sparking speculation that he may be taking a step back.
Channi led an ardent revolt against Amarinder Singh, and was one of the signatories to the letter calling for a CLP meet that precipitated Amarinder Singh’s exit.
His amiable personality, zest for hard work, robust outreach to the masses with overflowing energy stirring up crowds kindle the warmth of the fires of the masses making him the favorite chief ministerial choice.
Punjab has suffered different setbacks, hardships, including the farmers’ protests and suicides, the drug infiltration into Punjab hitting the youth, joblessness, crumbling school infrastructure, and the faint rising of insurgency, thus very definitely, the strong positive presence of Charanjit Singh Channi will set Punjab back on track, ensuring great change in Punjab to harness the state with security and prosperity churning under the wheels of work, action and promises fullfilled to make good turnarounds possible.
