The combination of spirit and body produced the soul where spirit and body were merged in this soul. In this connection: The soul and body were merged with the spirit, and spirit and body were merged in the soul.
As there was a perfect union of body, soul and spirit originally, Adam before the Fall did not struggle with issues of carnality, or struggles in the flesh. Eve’s first temptation was more suggestive to appeal in her senses as women are known to be more intuitive, sensitive, which also opens way to suggestions in the atmosphere. This is where the devil works and that was where for the very first time she actually struggled with strivings with her flesh. Adam as we know followed suit.
The perfect union of body soul and spirit where the soul was the merging medium made his personality or individuality. This is why humans are so uniquely different and we need to accept our differences. Scientifically as alluded by the Greek physician Hippocrates caused by the balancing of fluids in our body:
Sanguine personality type is described primarily as being highly talkative, enthusiastic, active, and social.
Choleric individuals tend to be more extroverted. They are described as independent, decisive, and goal-oriented, and ambitious.
Melancholic individuals tend to be analytical and detail-oriented, and they are deep thinkers and feelers. They are introverted and try to avoid being singled out in a crowd.
Phlegmatic individuals tend to be relaxed, peaceful, quiet, and easy-going. They are sympathetic and care about others, yet they try to hide their emotions.
We tend to see these four different personalities generally at play, yet humans are so deeply complex that there are added components to these personalities making it difficult to characterize the crux of behavior types.
In Christ, however, our personality differences cannot rule us because the spirit man rises above to supersede our natural life and personality. We know no one after the flesh. 2 Corinthians 5:16 Therefore from now on we recognize no one according to the flesh; even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him in this way no longer..
God created the angels spirits and not souls. God, however, personally crafted us with body, soul and spirit creating man a living soul making him and her very unique special individuals. This must have puzzled the angels to a great degree at the beginning.
The soul is that which needs to be saved to connect to God in eternity! This is so unique and different from all other beings on Earth, created in God’s own image, unlike animals. Genesis 1:27
So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them.
The soul encompasses the Will of Humans. Now here is the secret that will give humans powerful victory if they understand this. If the soul exercises its will to obey God and choose the things of God and obey the Word, it allows the spirit to rule over man, where the spirit takes the forefront above soul and body. This is the secret to victory of sin and flesh. Romans 8:2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.
The spiritual human will always let the spirit be the ruling power and not the soul. The carnal Christian will allow the soul to rule over all. Soul life is dangerous. It eventually separates us from God.
In a spiritual human, “It is sown a physical body, it is raised a spiritual body” (1 Cor. 15.44).
The first Adam was made a living soul but to the last Adam Jesus Christ is life-giving spirit (v.45). Romans 8:11: And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of His Spirit who lives in you.
