March 4 – The Fear of Jezebel
1 Kings 19 Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword. 2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “So may the gods do to me and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by this time tomorrow.” 3 Then he was afraid, and he arose and ran for his life and came to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there.
Jezebel was the daughter of Ithobaal I of Sidon and the wife of Ahab, King of Israel. She had many prophets murdered. Blood, revenge and hatred were on her watch. Today, as we see the hatred of people in a world polarized by hate, we realize they are not so different from the spirit of Jezebel. Hate actually symbolizes the spirit of Jezebel. These are few things we can do when we come across them:
We have to first guard our hearts when we come across people with this spirit. Those who hate cannot know God. So definitely, pray first for them. Wait upon the Lord…be rested in these times!
Guard our hearts that we are not filled with hatred. It is easy to start hating them back because their words against us are derogatory, many are falsified and they randomly pick up negative things, so they misrepresent someone’s faith. and trust In that maligning act, we want to react, but the Holy Spirit tells us to hold on, pray.
Getting into a debate with hate and such is useless. Never do it in anger or in reaction. It will only propagate further hatred. Be wise and before we speak and act.
In the end, Elijah lost his fear of Jezebel, because God spoke to him. When we listen to the Spirit, we will get new courage. In fact, Jezebel was killed by dogs ripping her apart, a sad gory end to her life, but she was a woman who lived in the vibes of hate.
