March 10 – Courage at the Brook of Kerith – Courage Series – #dailydevotion, #spirituall

March 10 – Courage at the Brook of Kerith

I Kings 17:  3-4 3 Elijah was afraid and fled for his life; he took his servant and went to Beersheba in Judah. Leaving the servant there, 4 Elijah walked a whole day into the wilderness. He stopped and sat down in the shade of a tree and wished he would die. “It’s too much, Lord,” he prayed. “Take away my life; I might as well be dead!”

Elijah slipped into depression after winning a big victory over Queen Jezebel, who had issued a death threat for Elijah.  Note, sometimes after a big victory, depression can hit us.  This is because it is a spiritual battle and not a fleshly one. The enemies of our soul such as demons try to crush us to the point of suicide.  Elijah had a death wish to die, and this was not from God.

What do you do if you are being oppressed and persecuted or you need to be brave for your situations?:

  1. Submit and surrender the situation to God.  Remember, your hope is in God you created you.  No one can know you better or care for you better than the One who created you!

  2. You are not alone! God told Elijah, “I’ve got 7,000 hidden ones, Elijah, men and women who haven’t given in to the spirit of this age. They’re growing in My Spirit. And they all share the same burden as you.” We may feel we are alone but God has many like us, we are all in this together! If we stick it out and pray for each other, we will see wonders and miracles in these dark times!

  3. Recognize this is a spiritual battle. Do not succumb to the attack; rise up and pray in the spirit, rebuke those spirits attacking you and caste them down.

  4. Open yourself to the provisions of God in your situation. Remember, Elijah had no means of getting food, but God provided the ravens to bring him food and the Brook of Kerith for water.

  5. Do not listen to the lies of the devil who will keep trying to whisper accusations.

  6. At his lowest ebb, God comforted Elijah. He came in the silence and strengthened him.  God never rebuked Elijah.  He nourished him with food for 40 days and also spiritually lifted him up as He will do for us.

  7. At the end, God returned Elijah to work. God too will bring us back to what He wants to accomplish through us.

A quote by Banning Liebscher “Courage is contagious. When a brave man takes a stand, the spines of others are stiffened.” (Journey of a World Changer: 40 Days to Ignite a Life that Transforms the World).

Our call is not over when the going is tough.  It may be a season in the forest, but God will bring us back. Hold up and keep connected to Him at the Brook of Kerith!  Never give up! Our hope is in God.
