Eyewitnesses in Rambagh say three unarmed boys were dragged out from a car and shot dead on the streets of Rambagh in front of them.
Minutes after police said that “three militants were killed in a shootout” in Srinagar, eyewitnesses have declared that “three boys were taken out from a car and shot dead on the street”.
In a viral video, shared both on Twitter and Facebook, eyewitnesses insist that the three were “unarmed and were shot dead by the armed forces in front of us”.
Witnesses have also alleged that the trio was dragged down from a vehicle and shot dead.

Different Kashmiris have expressed their anguish on Twitter about the event and write, “I pray your heart and existence shivers the way this lady’s hands are shivering. #KashmirBleeds #Kashmirilivesmatter #hindustanastrath

Distraughtly, a Kashmiri tweets, “The #Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, “Fear the prayer of an oppressed, even if he is a disbeliever. For there is no barrier between (it & Allah)” #Rambaghencounter #KashmirBleeds

Soon after the incident took place, locals gathered near the spot and claimed the killed men were “innocent”. The crowd shouted slogans and protests were reported from the spot.
In another viral video, wailing women can also be seen saying that they “witnessed a group of policemen”.
One of the protesting women in a video said that Kashmiris have “no idea about the events unfolding around them.”
People express shock over the incident where three people whom the police claim were militants in the Rambagh area of Srinagar were killed without cause and said they were innocent and asked how long will these fake encounters go on.
One woman, “We are helpless people,” she lamented, “how long will this go on?”
Another woman said, “have we raised our children to get killed on the streets like this? How long do we [Kashmirs] have to face this?”
However, police on its official Twitter handle has said that three militants were killed in the shoot-out.
Inspector-General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar has said that “one of three militants killed in a gunfight at Rambagh here has been identified as top commander of TRF, Mehran”.

The IGP said that police were after him for a long time especially after his name came up in connection with the killing of two teachers and other civilians.
“Identification of others is being ascertained,” he said.
However, there was no gunfight on the ground as is claimed. The witnesses on the ground reports differ from the police and their anguish is staggering. Kashmiris now say that everyone in Kashmir should carry their identity cards with their addresses on them so that if they are killed, their bodies would at least return home.
And one question sticks out is how can the police say the three boys were unidentified militants if they were dragged out of the car and killed? Citizens around India also question why these killings happen around elections. Is it because no one will question what authorities do if they put a tag as “terrorist” unleashes atrocities to do whatever they want? Local Kashmiris express that these incidents are done to malign them and brand them as terrorists, and for electoral gain for the upcoming 2022 UP elections. This is what they feel.
