June 30 – The Light of the World
John 8:12: Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, “I am the light of the world; he that follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
When people die and return, they often experience meeting a wonderful light who emanates Love. This Light is recognized by many to be Jesus. Today, though the world is in darkness, whoever responds to Him will have that Light flowing over their lives and pathway, and they will not walk in darkness. Here is a small testimony to encourage us. Desert Son was born in Saudi Arabia into a happy Muslim home. He learned a large part of the Holy Quran by heart and a lot from the Hadieth. When he was a teenager, he became an Imam for the mosque, fasted for Ramadan, prayed five times a day, Hadj and so on. He started to think about fighting in the name of God (Jihad) in Afghanistan to gain the favor of God. He was sixteen years old and his parents would not let him go because he was too young. He always had love and respect for the Muslim people, but no love or respect in his heart for Christians, and the Jews were his first enemies. Over the years, his life drifted away from God until he stopped believing in God. His life was busy, had an excellent job and earned lots of money. However, he was afraid what would happen if he died, would he go to Heaven? He was afraid about his future too.
One day he had a big problem and, in his room, he looked through the window up to the sky. He remembered God, and wanted to pray to Him to ask Him for help, but wondered which God to pray to, Allah? He was sure Allah was very angry with him because he stopped praying. He decided to pray to Jesus because he knew Jesus did a lot of miracles for people. He said, “Jesus help me!” After one and a half days, his problem was solved! He decided to find out who this Jesus is. Is he God as the Christian people say, or is He a prophet, as he knew from Islam? At this time, he left his country and went to Europe. On the third day, things became very difficult for him and he decided to go back to Middle East. That night he had a dream. He was standing in a cross shape with a low wall around it. On his right hand, he had a big stack of white unwritten papers. He was standing at the cross beam, and looking at a small group of people who were standing at the top. They all wore long white clothing, but one of them was different. He was standing at the right side, and with His left hand, He was leading people through a door in the wall. Beyond the door was light, and he could not see what was in there. One moment he was standing in the dream, and the next moment he was seeing the cross from above. It was difficult for him to understand this.When he woke up the next morning, he felt a very beautiful happiness in his heart that he never had before and felt a love in his heart and from inside his body a very special feeling. He also felt he wanted to walk and to walk and to ask everyone he met, “Do you know Jesus?”It was more than a great feeling. It was happiness that he had never known before in his life. After reading the Bible for one year, He understood many things and it seemed a bright light was shining within him.
When we meet Jesus, His Light shines upon us and then shines within us and through us, lighting up the darkness. We become little lights in the dark world with His Light shining through us.
