June 19 – Glimpses of Heaven

June 19 – Glimpses of Heaven

John 11:25: Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in Me will live, even though they die.

Sometimes, God gives some of us glimpses of Himself.  While we should not look for such experiences, God gives them to us unexpectedly for His eternal purposes.

Robert Sornsen was a young man who lived in Michigan:  On December 26, 1989, he was travelling along East Road in Lakeside, Michigan at 45 miles an hour when a snowplow pulled out into his lane and collided his 1985 Ford LTD and was totalled. He was rushed to the Memorial Hospital where the emergency room doctors worked hard to save his life.  As he lay there in a horrible condition and an atheist at heart, he had an out-of-body experience.  He was in a dark place that was endless with no floor, walls or boundaries, he felt a very evil, cold, and frightening presence far behind him that starting pulling him towards it.  Terrified, he ran forward in terror.  He then saw a great light in that swirling blackness.  He ran towards the light and a figure appeared at a distance and he froze in fear, trembling.  When he looked up, a tall man about 6’3″ or 6’4″ with a white robe and a gold sash was standing in front of him. He was of the greatest power he had ever imagined.  He could not see His face because His eyes were the brightest light he had ever seen, ten times the sun’s intensity.  He asked Him if this was Heaven. He suddenly recognized Him as Jesus.  He did not speak but transported him to heaven. He appeared in an open field and gospel music filled the atmosphere. He never liked gospel music before but at that moment it was by far the most beautiful music he had ever imagined.  Then Jesus said “Come see the Light.” He knew his every thought. He looked at Him from a side view and His eyes were like red flames. He said, “Do not be frightened. I am in spiritual form as you are.”  Robert realized he was floating. They passed beautiful mansions, all colors were so bright unlike Earth, people seemed to be busy, working, doing something.  Jesus then took him to the Light.  He saw a castle with light coming from it 1,000 times the intensity of the sun. This light was more than words can describe. Even though it was so bright, it didn’t hurt his eyes. It was warm and brought to mind every good feeling he ever had plus other feelings beyond imagination. He also knew that through this Light he would never be tired or sick. We entered the castle. Everything inside was beautiful. As they came upon a doorway, the Light became more intense. He then saw steps leading up to the throne of God. He looked up into His light and in an instant was transported back to the same place where Jesus first met him. He was there and He said, “I am the Truth, the Light, and the only Way.”  Robert came back from that experience to spend 20 hours in that emergency room. His life would never be the same. Months later, after recovering, he found Lighthouse Village Church of God where he committed his life to Christ.  He is serving Him, working in the church, sharing with others his testimony

This is the time we need to live a holy life close to the Lord.  There are many not as fortunate as Robert, many go to that dark place and do not even call for God in those last moments between life and death.  We may even claim we know God, but if we are living far from Him, carrying secret sins and lusts, there may come a time when it is too late to change.  Be confessed up to date and close to God at all times

Rita.
