June 18 – Ask and It will be Given unto You

Jesus said “Ask and it shall be given unto you. Seek and ye shall find. Knock and it shall be opened unto you. Will not the Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?”

Sometimes, we think God only answers the big prayers and tiny prayers are not important to God. But God in concerned with all that concerns us. Here is a small testimony of a lady called Alice Lewis who experienced a marvelous answer to prayer. It was winter season and the bitter Minnesota winter nights make houses creak and pop with the cold. The morning weather forecast had said it would be 20 degrees below zero Fahrenheit that night. Just as her husband was leaving for work, their furnace ran out of oil. They were in desperate financial straits. They barely had enough money to put a little food on the table. There was nothing left over for anything else. They didn’t have enough money to buy a can of fuel for the furnace. That night, the furnace sputtered on and off a few times, and then went dead. They would have to put oil in the tank and bleed the air out of the line before it would start again. She went into the basement to start a fire in their wood burning stove, however, only a few pieces of wood were left. It would soon get freezing cold. How could they protect their children? She could ask for help from her family or the church, but she didn’t want to do that. She was praying as she was putting in the last piece of firewood reminding Him that her hope was in Him alone to do a miracle. She was thinking in terms of a warm blanket, but instead God sent The Comforter – The Holy Spirit. She felt a surge of powerful energy flowing in through the top of her head, down her body through her feet, and back up again and out through her head. With toes tingling, she felt herself being lifted to her feet by unseen hands as words in a language she had never heard flowed from her mouth. With hands held high she began dancing around the house praising the Lord and singing songs she knew, and making up new songs of praise as she went. She put the children to bed with their snowsuits on, andpiled on all the blankets she could find. It never occurred to her to worry that the water pipes in the basement could freeze up as she was so filled up with the presence of the Lord. Her husband came home, late and slept, exhausted. A little electric space heater was running but it barely gave out any heat. About 2:00 a.m., she woke to the sound of the furnace fan running and tried to turn it off but it did not go off. Nextshe went into the kitchen and placed her hand over the hot air vent and to her utter amazement, warm air was coming out of the vent. With tears streaming down her cheeks, she thanked God for the miracle as there was no oil in the tank! Warm air was circulating all through their house.

“Give me oil in my lamp, keep me burning” The furnace continued to run without fuel until Friday when they had money to buy oil again! When she asked for the Comforter, she got both Him and physical comfort.

When we seek the Lord, He will add much more to us than we can imagine. “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.”
