July 14 – The Wonderful Comforter

Hebrews 2:1-4:  While God confirmed their witness with signs and wonders and various miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to His will.

In times of pain and sorrow, the Holy Spirit comforts us, in times of service, He anoints us with His power. He has a special ministry to us. The Holy Spirit is compared to:

Clothing (Luke 24:49): Because He clothes us with power from on high.

A Dove (Matthew 3:16): Because the dove is a symbol of purity, peace, and flies in the heavens and was used as a sacrifice for the poor and also symbolic of the one that brought a good report in Noah’s ark.  The dove brought the olive leaf.  A dove never rests on refuse, unlike the raven which ravages on refuse and dirt and never came back, scavenging on carcasses in the flood.  A dove is a clean pure bird, symbolic of Holy Spirit purity.

A Pledge, Earnest Money (2 Corinthians 1:22): Because He is the pledge and the down payment of our inheritance.

A Seal (Ephesians 1:13): Stamped, with a mark.  A seal protects, makes secure, and demonstrates ownership.

Fire (Acts 2:3): Because fire separates the impure from the pure, it cleanses and purifies. It burns and blazes in the heart. Many times when praying, feel His fire..He also places His fire in our hearts through different situations as a mark of His presence.

Oil (Acts 10:38): Oil destroys insects on sheep, the oil of anointing destroys the demonic bites, and attacks, through the blessing of the Holy Spirit anointing for healing, strength and oils burns to glow with fire, warm, comforting and gives   light.

Water (John 7:38): Water cleanses and refreshes. With water there is life, growth, and fruitfulness. Without water there are deserts, death and dryness.  Sometimes, when reading something or praying or even cleaning our hearts,  have felt like a water washing my soul! It is also experiential!

Wind (John 3:8): The Holy Spirit works in ways we can never realize, silent at times like the wind and as the winds blows wherever it wants, so God’s Spirit is sovereign. He gives gifts as He wills. Anoints with power as He wills, blesses with His presence as He wills.   Wind can be powerful like a hurricane, or be a cool gentle lovely breeze.  When He first touched me, heard like wind thundering in the room and I swayed as if being gently pushed by the Wind!

Breath: (John 20:22). Without breath we die. God’s Breath gives us life. In the Holy Spirit, we have life and intimacy with God.

Wine: Fills with joy, Holy Spirit joy, unlike the earthly wine.  As wine kills germs in the gut, the Holy Spirit kills the bacteria in our lives.  Be not drunk with wine but be filled with the Spirit. (Ephesians 5:18).  Sometimes, felt burning joy when praying, it is His wine!

We have a wonderful ministry of comfort through the Holy Spirit.  Ask Him to comfort you in times of sorrow and persecution, and He will.
