January 23   New Wine in New Skins – A Devotion

Luke 5:36-39:  And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the new wine will burst the skins, the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, new wine must be poured into new wineskins.

New wine represents the Holy Spirit.  Old wine represents old traditions that people hold in religion. When Christ came down to Earth to die as a man for the world, and rose again, He gave believers His Holy Spirit, indwelling, and filled with His fire. This fire is so powerful that it bursts the “Old Skin” of religious traditions.  While tradition is wonderful, if we put it above God, our faith weakens. With the new wine, we need new skin bags, empowered by the Spirit.

As God is advancing His Kingdom and doing new wonders on Earth, many times believers want to safe confines of their traditions and churches.  Perhaps the new things will make us uncomfortable, we would need to make divine shifts, align our lives more to God.  The truth is, in the Spirit, He takes over in such dimensions in the age of the new wine.

  1. Step in alignment with the greater glory.  Deliver yourself from the attachment to the old wine, it might be uncomfortable at first, but you will see the fruits of it. This means you need to listen to the Voice of the Spirit before you listen to the voice of your demands.

  2. Deliver yourself from the comfort zones. Make choices to step out of your boat at least once a day.  This is where you will step into your miracle zone.

  3. Keep up a conversation with the Holy Spirit, for through this, He will give you the strength to align yourself to the Kingdom, He will direct you and tell you what to do, and He will empower you for God’s service.

This is the season to empty yourself and then allow the Holy Spirit to fill you afresh.  His presence heals, stirs you, fills you with joy and heals you.  Open the windows and doors of your heart and let Him in.
