Building a Prayer Life Series
February 7 – The Prevailing Power of Prayer
Matthew 7:7-11: Keep Asking, Seeking, Knocking 7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.
Isaiah 62:1: For Zion’s sake I will not hold My peace, And for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest, Until her righteousness goes forth as brightness, And her salvation as a lamp that burns.
God wants us to be persistent prayer warriors! Jesus Christ prevails in prayer for us. He is forever interceding for us before the Mercy Seat of the Father. Jesus agonizes for us in prayers. He rose up in the dark of dawn to intercede and pray for many secrets that only eternity will tell. He is our High Priest in Hebrews 7:24 as the Son of Man, praying for us. We too are priests through Christ and it is our duty to prevail for ourselves and others too, in collaboration with Christ.
Here are a few points that will help us to prevail with Christ:
We have to fathom His spiritual authority: The Bible tells us Jesus holds the highest place in Heaven, Philippians 2:9: He is the Name above every name, in heaven, on earth and under earth, power over demons and Satan. In Christ, we are heirs to His authority and through Him, we need to pray and prevail.
Jesus is actively involved in the affairs of Earth, and as we learn to pray to Him about world affairs, He empowers our prayers, activating angels on our behalf and His bid to intervene into the affairs of Earth. All things are under Christ, Ephesians 1:20-22 and He is the head over all things. He has the authority to break evil powers, principalities and bring down wicked strongholds.
His reign is priestly. As our high priest, Messiah, He intercedes for the Earth. His throne is one of intercession. In Christ, we also carry a priestly anointing to pray for the Earth. Today, He wants us to join Him as intercessors.
Prevailing prayer has to be churned through deep desire. James 5:16 reads: ‘Tremendous power is made available through a good man’s earnest prayer.’ The emphasis is upon the word ‘earnest’ and also a “good man.” We have to be morally enlightened people. A person who murders, steals, lies, attacks others prayers are dulled to the Heavens. A person with a pure heart is heard readily by God.
The Holy Spirit has to fire those prayers in our heart and puts burden in our lives to pray for. His passion blazes through our prayers with the fervency of fire and desire. Pure prayer is lifting requests to God born within us by the Holy Spirit.
Prayers that prevail again have to be of a righteous man. God is compassionate, He hears the cries of all humans on the Earth, He is attentive to their cries. A righteousness man and woman’s prayers have a special power because the Holy Spirit dwelling within charges their prayers. Thus, we see mighty miracles, healings and deliverances among believers who truly learn to prevail with God.
