The Intercessor

Ezekiel 22:30: “I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one.”

An intercessor is “one who pleads in behalf of another”. An intercessory has an extraordinary life, beyond the natural and is called to see in the spiritual realm, discern through God’s wisdom and pray with agonizing burdens for others until they feel released from those prayers. Before and during revival, God commissions an army of intercessors to rise and pray for revival. Intercessory prayer is a blessed wonderful ministry—and only eternity will reveal the fruit of answered prayers, breakthroughs, and power of the hidden work of prophetic intercession.

We are all called to pray, and as a norm, we all pray for one another at different times when asked, or we have family or church prayers where we raise up a prayer list or pray for certain people we are burdened for. An intercessor, however, has a ministry as a prayer warrior in the spiritual realm because it requires one of great spiritual sensitivity and consecration to bear this gift and not many can carry this. The prophet intercessor has the gift of listening to God, waiting on God to hear and see what He says, has a keen spiritual vision into the supernatural realm and can see hidden dark and mysterious things. God reveals secrets because He knows the prophet intercessor can be trusted with these and will pray faithfully until spiritual breakthroughs are wrought.Anna is a Biblical example of a prophetic intercessor. She poured years into her God-given assignment of praying in the temple, leading up to Jesus the Messiah’s birth. (Luke 2:36-38).

Some of the prophet intercessors in the Bible were Moses, Jeremiah, Isaiah, Ezekiel, Elisha, Elijah, Nehemiah, and any more you can think of! They prayed with tears, carrying heavy burdens for a situation or for their nation and did not stop until they saw breakthrough.

You may have the gift of being a prophet intercessor in the making, meaning, you may not even be aware of the call that is being birthed in you until God reveals it to you specifically, so if you read what is shared and feel you can identify with even some of it, or feel a rising in your heart to be a prophet intercessor, know that God is planting that seed within you which is why you may feel a quickening, an awakening within and in time, He will lead you to pray more passionately with His vision.

As an intercessor, you would get insight and instructions and many times an urgent Voice in your spirit man urging you to pray for someone, some situation or even a nation. No one would need to tell you what to pray for, but often your prayers would be confirmed by someone, sharing that they needed prayer at that particular time. Travail is common to you with a deep sense of birthing the purposes of God for such a time as them. Many times, you may experience wordlessness in prayers, with deep groans without words, you weep, as did Hannah in 1 Samuel 1:10-13 and Elijah who in the birthing position prayed for rain in 1 Kings 18:41-44.

Make an effort each day to hear what God is telling you. Sometimes, He may give you an intense burden to pray for a particular State, so be faithful to pray for it. For example, in December, 2019, the Lord has quickened my heart to pray for Jharkhand, so I prayed hard for this State. He may give you another State. He may call you to pray for a particular group of persecuted people, intercede and pray for them daily. You will see the rewards in time.
