February 22 – Pray through the Word of God
John 15:7: If you abide in Me, and My words abide (live) in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you”
Speaking the Word aloud is powerful. When we pray, we can read out a verse aloud and personalize it for ourselves. When we read a promise in the Bible, we turn it into a conversation with Jesus. Start to read and pray the Word of God every single day. As you do this, you will glean new Truths and God will show you different pictures of the same verse. The Word of God is so rich, with spiritual truth glimmering through, alive and glowing, so receive it. As you receive a truth, pray it through, preferably aloud.
You will find yourself in greater conversations with Christ because it is His Word, who is the Living Word, the Bread of Life that you are engaging with, and your relationship with Him will go richer. Take a chapter at a time. As you read an entire chapter, you are getting nourished on meal and not just tiny delicious crumbs. Pray through the Word daily and the Holy Spirit will take you to deeper depths and greater heights in your relationship with Him.
Most of David’s Psalms were prayers using Old Testament Scripture. God answered David mightily. You can even pray through the Psalms in your prayer life. God will do wonders for you when you do that as you are praying through His Word.
Jesus taught us how to pray God’s Word through His example. When praying the “The Lord’s Prayer” in Matthew 6:9-13, He used direct quotes of Scripture. When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness during His forty days and nights of fasting, He quoted Matthew 4:4, 7. Sometime, we are at a loss for words so use Scripture instead.
This is how to pray: Read this verse aloud: “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that He should repent: hath He said, and shall He not do it? or hath He spoken, and shall He not make it good?” (Num. 23:19).
Pray: Thank You Father that You would never lie, never regret what You do because You know all things, and You would make all things good.
“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks a fish, will He give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask Him?” (Matt. 7:7-11)
Pray: Father, by faith I ask for this is Your promise (repeat it to Him) and then make your request.
Over time, your prayer conversations will become more alive and richer founded and grounded on the Bible rather than our own desires and cravings. We will start to glimpse the mind of God and His vastness. May we learn to pray more through His Word day by day.
