February 14 – The Seeking Prayer – Prayer Series

February 14 – The Seeking Prayer

Jeremiah 29:13:  And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

Seeking is a higher level of prayer than asking. It intensifies in force and length of time.  Seeking starts first with groaning and then heart searching, heart cleansing, yearning, desiring to a deeper level.  Blessed are those who seek -Psalm 119:2. When the prophet Jeremiah spoke this word from God over the people of Israel, they were in captivity. Then in the time of crisis. God allowed a groaning in their hearts to rise. Sometimes, we have to be in a land of captivity to allow us to seek Him.  When things are smooth, we take things for granted.

Persecution among Christians has awakened many believers to start to seek the Lord more deeply and earnestly.  We rise up at different watches of the day and night to pray for one another. God hears the urgency of the seeking hearts, which rises like fire before His throne.   If we don’t seek Him, we may not find Him. God wants to capture our hearts.

God loves all people, but a special favor is bestowed on seekers.  Proverbs 8:17-19 “I love those who love Me, and those who seek Me find Me. With Me are riches and honor, enduring wealth and prosperity. My fruit is better than fine gold; what I yield surpasses choice silver.”

In times of trouble, seek Him.  Put aside every weight and set aside time and pray, listen, and then pray again.  Note down any words He may speak into your heart. Wait upon Him in seeking. Seeking takes time.

The early church knew the secret of seeking and spent time praying together and seeking God.  The early church also started to face persecution, which intensified their prayer times of seeking.

Seeking God means praying to Him until you sense the light of breakthrough.  You need to pray until you feel peace, pray until your spirit starts to blaze with His holy fire, or keep on praying until you hear the Lord tell you a specific word.  If you feel intense peace or see a vision, wait upon the Lord, don’t move, keep waiting for the Spirit wants to speak more to you.

Be a seeker of Christ in every situation.  When the believers were persecuted, they sometimes got discouraged and were ready to give up. Hebrews chapter 10 shares how at one time, many of these believers had joyfully accepted the confiscation of their homes and property because of their faith. However, trials came like dark waves over them and the struggles became hard and sometimes, the believers almost gave up in discouragement.  They stopped seeking the Lord. God was actually doing a deeper work in their lives, but they lost sight of it. Heb.12:5-6 “And you have forgotten that word of encouragement that addresses you as sons: ‘My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when He rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines those He loves, and He punishes everyone He accepts as a son.”

So, friends, do not get discouraged in hard times of persecution. Use these times as opportunities to seek Him and you will experience breakthroughs and great answers to prayer.  The devil is not stronger than God and God’s will and victory for your life will prevail, especially when you learn to seek Him.
