February 13 – The Knocking Prayer
Luke 18:7-8: 7 And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?
8 I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?”
The third and last step is to knock, and the Greek word for knock is “krouo” meaning to rap or to crack. Knocking stands for persistence. We always think of the persistent widow when we think of knocking. Luke 18: Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart, 2 saying: “There was in a certain city a judge who did not fear God nor regard man. 3 Now there was a widow in that city; and she came to him, saying, ‘Get justice for me from my adversary.’ 4 And he would not for a while; but afterward he said within himself, ‘Though I do not fear God nor regard man, 5 yet because this widow troubles me I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.’ ” 6 Then the Lord said, “Hear what the unjust judge said. 7 And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? 8 I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?”
God is looking for knockers! He calls it Faith! If you are struggling with persecutions, trials, and difficulties, don’t resign to it as your “fate” or God’s will for you. He wants you to persist in prayer and keep knocking until the door opens.
The practical ways to persist is:
Keep on praying until the answer comes. Pray three times a day for it.
Meditate for a part of your persistent prayer. Meditation helps you to clear your mind, and enable God’s will to align with yours. You may ask, how do I meditate? Simply let your brain relax, surrender to Christ and stop all racing thoughts, plans. Wait on Him. You may open the Bible and let a verse speak to you and allow the Holy Spirit to draw out divine truths through that verse. You will suddenly see new perspectives glittering through that verse as a diamond. Truths you never saw before will suddenly come alive and you will be energized.
Meditation gives you the strength to keep knocking in the power of the Holy Spirit and not your human strength.
Hanging at God’s door is a wonderful place to sojourn even once a day. While it may seem extreme, think of the persecution people are facing and the prayers and interventions they need. The believers all over are praying for the persecuted Christians who in villages, get attacked quite violently on the weekends. Well, one Saturday, there was a planned attack on the Adivasis in the village and they got to know about it, so they prayed fervently all morning without stopping. The fanatics were supposed to attack them at 12:30 p.m., but they did not make it as their leader suddenly got paralyzed. Later, a group of them descended on the Adivasis demanding that they convert to Hinduism. The Adivasis told them they used to worship spirits, but when they believed in Jesus, He gave them peace and they would never give Him up. After a big argument of hours, the fanatics left, their heads hanging in defeat. This is the power of knocking prayer!
We must never give up!
