“Be still and know that I am God!” is the first part of Psalm 46:10. Still comes from a Hebrew word Hiphil meaning “to let go” be weak, to release.”
This is a place of relinquishment where we are willing to submit ourselves to Christ and acknowledging that He is in sovereign control. We put down all our fears, rushing and racing and tracing.
We finally realize that we are incapable of controlling life or events, so in surrender we say, “Your will be done, not mine.” We stop trying to control others too or trying to change them. We rest in Him for that change. We rest in Him for our past, present and future.
Surrender and rest opens the door so that we may experience the fullness of all God wants and has for us as He is our loving Creator and has the best in store for us. The Holy Spirit fills us with His peace, presence and rest as we are still and know that He is God.
