August 19 – The Sword
Hebrews 4:12: For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires
The Bible is the Word of God. It is a supernatural book written by many different people , namely 44 different people who wrote it in different centuries under different circumstances from different walks of life, but it appeared as if written by one person supernaturally written by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, See 2 Timothy 3:16. This is the miracle of the Bible, it does not contradict itself!The Bible is not a collection of ancient religious writings. It is living. It is Holy, written by the Holy Spirit through these men of God: 2 Peter 1:21: For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
It is constantly alive (zon), active, energizing. It is the power of God. It is the most powerful weapon in the universe because it can change us.
It is sharper than the sharpest sword. It has an edge to it, but is not blunt. It cuts its way into the innermost recesses, where no surgeon’s scalpel can go. It deals with the “heart” (kardia), the central seat of the human personality with its spiritual, intellectual, moral and emotional life. It is the center and core of the human personality.
The Word of God is “piercing” (diikneomai) meaning “to go through.” The sword pierces through the heart. It pierces through the inmost recesses of our spiritual being. Nothing remains untouched by the Word of God.
The Word of God “judges the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” It “judges” (kritikos) from krino “to divide” or “separate.” It analyzes the evidence.
It deals with the realm of our thinking. “Thoughts” (enthumesis) are the cognitions and inner reasoning that takes place in the mind. Our secret sins are uncovered and laid bare before God’s eyes.Nothing is hidden from the Word of God (Heb. 4:13). One day, each one will stand before the Living Word and give an account for their lives and be judged accordingly.
A young girl was being plagued by evil spirits and finally, she found an online audio Bible and downloaded it and played it through the night on her laptop. The spirits that were shaking her bed, hammering on her door and even trying to strangle her left! Such is the power of the spoken Word. As we read the Bible, when we act on it, the power of it flows through us and it becomes the Living Word. 3.9 billion copies of the Bible sold over the last 50 years, the highest read Book. “Quotations from the Works of Mao Tse-tung” came in second with 820 million copies sold, and “Harry Potter” came in third with 400 million copies sold.
Read the Living Word! Submit to its Truth and let is work within you, actively and operatively, cleaning, carving, and remaking and the Truth will set you free, and bring greater joy and freedom for the Holy Spirit will start to work within you. Ask Him to teach you the Scriptures and He will.
