August 18 – The Cloak of Humility
1 Peter 5:6: Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time.
When Self Life is strong, then the Big I thrives on and humility dies out. Edo hardens to a stone, which is hard to break, insensitive to other’s pains.
Humility comes from the Latin word humilis, which literally means low. This person bends low, not in groveling but in gentleness and submission. We need to submit to one another in lowliness of mind. “Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for ‘God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.’” 1 Peter 5:5-6. In this submission, we are “clothing ourselves with humility” We are the people of peace, harmony and unity. We learn from others, listen to them, and never think we are better. At the same time, we serve God alone and do not bow to people. “you were bought at a price; do not become slaves of men.” 1 Corinthians 7:23.
Humility gives us greater spiritual might. A man once shared a vision he saw. He saw a hill and, on that hill, there was a great battle being fought. There were gigantic men wearing flashing bright gold armors and bright glowing swords as well as flying arrows. As they were fighting, many of them were blinded by the glittering armors and had to shield their eyes, and thousands of these men fell down wounded and some died. Then, this man saw a man wearing a simple brown cloak, walking steadily. Not one of these arrows touched him nor a sword. Somehow, the flashing fighting army did not see him at all. His cloak hid him during that battle. This man got the interpretation from the Holy Spirit that the giant men in flashing armors were people of the world who lauded in prideful positions. They wore flashing clothes and waved their weapons bullying many people, but their bright false glory only attracted more violence because of their pride. In the end, they kept fighting with each other due to jealousy and pride, and could not even see their targets because of their flashing clothes, and fell down. People with humility may not shine in the world, but they are shielded, protected from evil. That cloak of humility is more powerful. In times of trouble, their humility will hide them from the devil’s armies. In God’s time, He will lift up the humble and they will rule the world!
Humility opens all blessings: God pays very close attention to our hearts and looks to strengthen those who desire to live unto His honor and glory. He looks at him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and who trembles at My word.’” Isaiah 66:1-2.He will bless such!
Satan’s pride brought his fall. Pride has its root in the devil. We are not to be rich and satisfied in ourselves. Such pride stops God from doing a transforming work in our lives. At all times, we are to be humble and lowly of heart. This is when God starts to bless us and all we do! Wear the cloak of humility daily!
