August 13 – Kings and Thrones
Daniel 2:21: And He changes the times and the seasons: He removes kings, and sets up kings: He giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding.
Governments rise and fall. God loves the world and blesses each nation with a span of time so it might prosper and do well. However, this blessing ends when a nation becomes rebellious, anarchic and violent. When this happens, the nation runs on mercy “oil” for a season and when that mercy season ends, God withdraws His blessing, marginalizes or destroys that nation.
We all know that God destroyed the wicked world in Noah’s day because they would have bred never-ending evil. However, He saved a remnant. God says, “I bring prosperity and create disaster; I, the Lord, do all these things.” Isaiah 45:7. It is hard to imagine God bringing disaster, but He said it clearly in Ezekiel 14:12-21, “ ‘Son of man, if a country sins against Me by being unfaithful and I stretch out my hand against it to cut off its food supply and send famine upon it and kill its men and their animals….”
Some people say almost carelessly that it doesn’t matter who rules the nation because God is on the throne. While they are right, the Bible does want us to get involved not only in praying for our government for good rule, but also important to pray for the right people to be in place. Things have to align properly and fall into place for that to happen. We need to be praying about it. It seems prayer warriors are far too few
When evil rulers reign, when our families are tied in in pain, tied by iron chains, or imprisoned, or shot, surely, we will not be saying let it be, God is control. I am sure we will be praying for protection, healing, praying for their release from prison. When Peter was in prison, the saints prayed for his release and he was released.
Our participation to pray for our nation is so vital. If we hardly pray, we will see chaos in our countries. If you recognize that your rulers are wicked, pray for God to arrange situations to enable the smooth transition of the right ones to come into power. If we are prayerless, millions of broken people will wail and cry, millions of men, women, and children in tyrannous war zones will die. Friends, we cannot be dead to the horror, when the world weeps in sorrow.
When we rise up and pray, God puts a ruler of His choice on the throne by divine destiny alone
God raised Moses for such a time as that
God raised David for such a time as that
God raised Joseph for such a time as that
God raised Daniel for such a time as that
God raised Nehemiah for such a time as that
God is raising rulers for such a time as this
If we notice, Moses, David, even Esther, Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchill, Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, and so many others were used mightily for their nations for such a time as those. Remember, before they came into power, there were groaning people, crying to God for a good ruler, and God heard their cries. Let us pray for good governance and the right rulers.
