August 12 – Never Let a Snake In

Proverbs 22: 3: A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.

Sometimes, we are drawn to something and despite the warnings of people, we refuse to listen. Sometimes we let certain people into our lives because they make us feel good. Sometimes we let them in because we think we are helping them, but in reality, we are becoming a crutch for them and they would never grow to glow. We often “play god” to people because it makes us feel good, but we should release people as this too is a harm that comes back to us. Wisdom comes from being attuned to the Holy Spirit, reading books brimming with wisdom, read Proverbs prayerfully, and listen to wise people.

A few steps to feel from danger could be:

  1. Pray for discernment, but also be careful not to mix judgement with discernment, some people get so boggled with discerning that they become suspicious of everyone. Let love be the rule of law above all.

  2. Try not to play “god” in someone’s life. Many times, we want people around us because they make us feel important. Rather, we should release people to fly. If you keep them tightly wound around you, one day, in their frustration, they will strangle you! Help people but release them always to find themselves and grow and do things independently without leaning on you as a “pole!”

  3. If you find yourself in violent company, flee. Violence begets violence, the Bible warns us to stay away from us. They start to plot your own destruction in time because they are ruled by destructive thoughts.

  4. Ask God every day to guide you and for spiritual discernment each day.

  5. Walk in the Spirit and He will show you all things.

  6. Don’t get into business deals with corrupt people. It is a sure fall into disaster, do not agree to lie, steal, cheat. This opens the entry for the little foxes to spoil your vine. Then evil has rights over your life to ruin it. Be wise.

  7. Prevention is better than cure. Before something happens, be careful to prevent it. Example, watch over your children, don’t let them out without your supervision. Not only is the danger of falling into a bore well, but also times have changed, evil people are lurking all over the streets and alleys, hills and valleys as perpetrators of young children. Prevent accidents, rash driving, or gas stoves on. The list is endless, but basically, be watchful, careful and prayerful!

Remember, if you know it is a snake, never let it in! When you get comfortable with evil, it soon becomes part of your life and soon, you would not know what is right and wrong. Everything starts to look harmless and soon truth fades away like a misty vision. Then one day, danger strikes, so wake up before it is too late.
