August 1 – Salty People #spiritualinspiration

August 1 – Salty People

Matt.5 Verses 13 to 20. Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost its savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

We would be wise to endeavor to be salty and not sweet! Sweet gives delight for the moment, but is not a preserver nor a disinfectant as salt is. The word “salty” is most often used in relation to foods that have been seasoned with salt. But salt is more than just taste. Today, the world around us is in spiritual decay and nothing other can salt can actually preserve and maintain our personal walk in Spirit. Salt purifies, preserves and gives a delicious flavor to food, yet too much of it can taste terrible. It produces thirst. For Orientals and Arabs, salt is often used to strengthen agreements so that salt became a symbol of fidelity and friendship.Numbers 18:19 says, “And every oblation of thy meal offering shalt thou season with salt; neither shalt thou allow the salt of the covenant of thy God to be lacking from thy meal offering; with all thy meal offering, you shall offer salt.”

Purifier: Salt is a symbol of purity used in the meal offering representing God. Elisha purified the waters of the city of Jericho and cast it into the spring that was infected by a substance of a brackish nature. Then Elisha declared: “Thus saith the Lord, I have healed these waters. Salt kills germs, thus purifying the impure. As we walk in communion with the Spirit, our lives are automatically purified, and sinful nature is killed just as germs are destroyed. Sometimes we are not even aware of how much He is purifying us.

Preserver. In the natural realm, meat has germs on its surface and unless treated with salt, it will putrefy. Likewise, the Holy Spirit indwelling in us prevents us from moral and spiritual decay.  This is why if we are truly saved and born again, the saltiness in us works mightily to preserve us spiritually.  A quote, “The grace of God preserves the saints- the saints are to preserve the Earth.”  Our presence on Earth actually brings purification and preservation to the spiritual truths.  It makes it easier for others to assimilate this truth because of God’s Light shining through too.

Flavor: As salt adds taste to food, our spiritual lives too add spiritual flavor and are a blessing to ourselves and others around us. Most lovers of Truth will always love a salty person, there’s something about them. Their words inspire, bring life, hope, speak joy, speak strength into people. Everyone wants to be around them.

Thirst: Excess Salt: Excess salt in food tastes terrible. We will often want to spit it out! Excesses in people are the same. A person has to keep a good balance, wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and the Holy Spirit all work together in harmony and balance. Extremism meaning if a person only relates to the carnal world or only to the spiritual realm will bring imbalance and lack of insight. Such people become fanatics which are dangerous for the world. Strive for wisdom which will deliver us from excess saltiness and extremism.

May we seek to be salty people through a daily walk in the Holy Spirit.
