Words have power

April 6 – Words have power

We all love the sword! I mean the spiritual sword that depicts power over wicked situations. So many pictures with spiritual warfare depict the sword.  The sword mentioned here is the maxairon which is the short sword carried by the Roman foot soldier of 16-18 inches. The user had to develop skills to wield it or he would not survive.

Sometimes we are so caught up with the law, we miss the spiritual core! This means, we read our Holy Books religiously, but we never apply the words to life or speak the Word.

Thus, in order to wield the Word like a Sword, we need to be spiritually enlightened, and then led to use the words of the Life applying it in different situations.  The Word of God spoken or written in different times and shared has the power to work like a sword:  Hebrews 4:12:  For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

When we speak negative words, it generates negativity around us, and truly, we start to sink.  If we learn to speak words of faith, declare goodness and speak gratitude, we start to travel on supernatural waves of light, God sees us through. God still is above and beyond our situations.  Even if we are low, He still lifts us up many times, but to live with the Word of God surrounding us in positivity and light is the best possible way to live.

John Stott author said “We must allow the Word of God to confront us, to disturb our security, to undermine our complacency and to overthrow our patterns of thought and behavior.”

We need to raise up Holy Swords (Words) anointed by the Holy Spirit, dipped in grace, power, and blessings and speak according by faith. Those anointed words will deliver people and set the captives free.

In another short testimony, a woman had got news that her young teenage daughter out at sea with her friend was lost. All the friends set up a prayer chain and praying 24/7 for her.  Then the verse popped up in the mother’s heart:  Psalm 139:8:  If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.”  The mother prayed through that stormy season using only this verse because it gave her great comfort.  Seventy-two hours later, the daughter and friend were found alive, they floated on sea for hours before they found refuge on an island! The daughter testified that she felt as if she was going to die and felt as if she was in the pits of hell, and during that very dark time, she felt the presence of God with her.  Certainly, as the mother prayed through the Word, the Word became alive in her daughter who found a firmer faith in God after that ordeal.

Ephesians 6:17:  and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.

The Sword is powerful, be careful how you use it.  It penetrates the thoughts and intents of the heart, exposes evil, convicts, wounds, heals, gives life, revives, restores, creates, builds, and blesses.
