Territorial Spirits
Daniel 10:12-13: Then he said to me, “Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words. 13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left alone there with the kings of Persia.
This month is on spiritual warfare so the topic does rail around the realm of darkness! Demonic spirits are set in our areas where we live and rule over certain geographical areas in the world. The three-week delay of the angelic messenger to Daniel was opposed by “the Prince of Persia” understood by many scholars to mean an evil spiritual prince over the Persian nation, race, and land. The “Legion” of demons (Mark 5:1-20) is seen begging Jesus not to send them out of their territory because they feared the higher demons in other territories.
The glorified Lord called Pergamum the place where “Satan’s throne is” (Rev. 2:13). Jesus also spoke concerning the religious life of Smyrna, identifying the synagogue there as belonging to Satan (Rev. 2:9-10).
Gilbert Pickering wrote of a personal encounter with a demon that oppressed an Amazonian tribe, and how his victory over the spirit led to reaching them. An unnamed man gives a detailed account in private conversations of how he believes that certain rituals in a tribe came from occult experiences with a powerful demon. His opinion is that the demon uses these rituals to shackle its adherents in spiritual darkness.
As we can see, territory demons rule parts of regions and block the people’s mind to the Light of God and such places are riddled with the worst crimes, violence, hatred. The strongholds of that territory have to be broken down through prayer.
We cannot see the supernatural currents behind the curtains of our natural living, they are like waves in the oceans and gusts of wind that move between us to shatter and change the course of our lives if they can.
We are to be occupied with the Lord and communion with the Lord, and in that living relation, we pray as spiritual warriors. We are to never attack demons and fallen angels personally, but only through Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit in prayer. We are protected and hidden in the shadow of God’s wings. The promises of Psalm 91 can be ours to claim each single day.
Evil, black magic, Satanism, and witchcraft are destroyed through us abiding in the Holy Spirit dwelling under the shadow of the Almighty, praying, and casting down and out.
Yet in reality, not all of us are walking in the Presence of the Lord all the time. Many times we walk in the realm of our flesh and desires and that is when demons hit and attack us. When our flesh “dies” nothing has the power to touch us. We proclaim, “I die daily and Christ lives in me”.
Sometimes, we accept the destiny of destruction and fatality with the purview that God is sovereign in all, which He is, but the Bible teaches repeatedly about praying in all seasons and praying for everything. Ephesians 6:18: And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all people for God so loves the world.
