When Words Spill Out – Poem

When words spill out in anger and rage We may wish those words were never staged Because cruel words can cause lives to be broken Those words should have never been spoken And those words may have been the last words they heard If so, the pain and misery in us will always be stirred

Be careful before you speak each time Ensuring that your words be always sublime For you know words cannot be taken back soon Words dislodge a person like a cursed boon Caught in a rat’s trap, harsh words are entrapped Caught in the soul held in an iron cage Words embedded, lives distorted by rage

But wait! There is still hope, in that murky mess There is still a way for this mess to address We can undo the wrong by doing the right Say sorry, do good, bring in the light To take out the pain in the scorpion sting Take wounding words and the pain it brings Burn ugly words to bring them to ashes Speak kindness and love to heal that soul To soothe the stripped red bleeding lashes

Through prayer also harsh words shrink Wiped out by Divine invisible ink Taking out the  poisoned arrows Healing the spirit, soul, body and marrow In time, the stabs of words fade and heal When we get down humbly and prayerfully kneel And then the old gaping wounds start to seal!

Proverbs 16:32: Whoever is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.
