Within the thick damp walls of sorrow Hope is drowned with no trace of morrow But when tears of sorrow mingle with the soil It nourishes the buried secret seeds of joy Without pain and sorrow we cannot know joy As gold blazes in the pain of heightened heat It comes out glowing, shining golden, elite The catharsis of sorrow births transcendence Purged of pain now sparkles with resonance The dungeon of sorrow that you fear Hold secret treasures to release a divine gear When you look at sorrow in its face It races behind you and joy overtakes When sheaves of corn are blown in the wind His threshing knife cuts off the callous rind Shifting you from husks of ungainly grain He sifts you to free you from thick husks. Until your life exudes the aroma of rich musk Sorrow releases the seeds of joy each time Sorrow strengthens your feet to mountains climb Sorrow kneads your soul until you are yielding Joy floods in when you knit with His healing
