The hammer of life chips jagged edges Cutting off wild ragged wedges Furiously breaking stony lives to pieces Purging, cleaning, shaping increases The hammer of life works hard Breaking down ice-chipped hearts In this deep cathartic surgical work Washes off dust, filth, and embedded dirt Chisels off wounds, pain and hurt The hammer smooths rough hearts Etches out treasures for greater lives Purging from the internal surge of strife The hammer drives in harder nails Building lives from broken derails Cleaning out shrapnel from deep inside Healing and binding in greater strides The hammer creates well constructed souls Strengthening to make souls strong and whole Never fear the tough hammer of life For its cathartic work makes us stronger and more alive
