And They Walked Miles and Miles Home
The day the COVID-19 lock-down was declared Millions of migrants walked down narrow factory stairs Owners threw them out on stony hard streets And in some places, the cops and leaders got them beat Unhappy, pockets empty, hungry, and scared and so alone They chose to walk thousands of miles back home Walking in freezing nights and daytime shimmering heat Dehydrated, starving, weak and with cracked feet Some days they barely got a meal to eat Parents carried burdens and heavy loads Hundreds got killed by vehicles on roads Some slept on railways tracks without thinking of trains They lost their lives that night to death’s pulling chains When they got no help nor drop to home, can they be put to blame? Leaving their children orphaned, weak and staggering along Lives gone so needlessly due to a lock-down gone so wrong Some just reached home and were called by the Virus A Virus calling people in throngs to death’s chorus When some poor reached home, villagers did not let them near Chasing them away due to the COVID-19 fear They came home for solitude and for rice But for struggle for life, they pathetically died And children cried in agony until eyes were dried Such senseless loss and sorrow could have been prevented If a better well thought out lock-down plan had been invented
